Benefits of Music

For many years we have all enjoyed listening to our own taste of music while we accomplish tasks or used it as background noise, but did you know while you're completing those tasks that the music you're listening to is actually having an effect on your body without you even noticing. Here are a few ways how you could or have been benefiting from listening to your favorite music.

01

  • Listening to music can help bring back memories or if it is used to study than is it easier to recall information later on. Patients with Alzheimer's or dementia use music therapy to help recall memories or cognitive abilities.

02

  • While you listen to your favorite music, behind the scenes your brain increases the production of dopamine. This increase in the hormone helps reduce anxiety and depression.

03

  • There is reason why athletes always listen to music while warming up or during practice. Research has shown that when performing any type of physical activity, your body tends to be distracted by the music so your mind does not pay attention to how tired the body is allowing you to increase endurance.

04

  • Having trouble sleeping? Try listening to slower music with a lower beats per minute (BPM) before going to bed. Research has shown that slower and lower bpm music relaxes the brain allowing the sleep process to be sped up.
